Former heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, reignited long-running hopes of a blockbuster clash with Anthony Joshua after returning to the ring in emphatic fashion at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where he made a direct, emotional callout following his latest victory.
Fury had just ended another 16-month absence from boxing, shaking off the rust in his comeback bout against Arslanbek Makhmudov.
The Russian heavyweight began strongly, imposing his physical, aggressive style early on and attempting to disrupt Fury’s rhythm in the opening round.
However, once Fury settled, the fight shifted decisively. He leaned on his trademark long jab, controlled distance with sharp movement, and repeatedly forced Makhmudov into uncomfortable exchanges.
As the rounds progressed, Fury’s ring craft and experience took over, with the judges ultimately seeing a near-clean sweep in his favour after a composed and dominant performance.
With the win secured, attention shifted immediately from the action in the ring to the man seated ringside, Joshua himself—setting the stage for a dramatic post-fight confrontation that boxing fans have been waiting years to see.
Fury used the moment to publicly call out his British rival, insisting the long-awaited showdown should finally be made.
In a passionate appeal, he told Joshua, “Next, I want to give you the fight you’ve all been waiting for,” urging him to step up for what he described as the long-awaited “Battle of Britain.”
Joshua, who remained seated during the callout, later responded in a fiery exchange of words from ringside, dismissing Fury’s remarks and firing back with his own accusations.
“Tyson, you’re a clout chaser,” Joshua said, before adding, “I’ve never had no problem getting in the ring with you. I punched you out when we were kids, and after watching you in here tonight, I’ll punch you up again.”
He continued by asserting his own stance on negotiations and control of the long-running rivalry, saying, “With all due respect, tonight is your night. And you know I’ll sit across that ring from you in due time. You ain’t going to tell me what to do. I’ve been chasing you for the last 10 years. When you’re ready, you come and see me, and tell me your terms and conditions, and I’ll have you in the ring when I’m ready. I’m the boss. You work for me. I’m the landlord, remember that.”
Fury, however, quickly rejected that version of events, insisting the power dynamic is reversed and reiterating that he is the one driving the demand for the fight.
He doubled down on his challenge, declaring, “Listen, let’s give the fight fans what they want. Do not run from me this time. 10 years in the making. Let’s f*cking dance!”
