Former trainer and uncle of Tyson Fury, Peter Fury, has admitted that Anthony Joshua could hand his nephew the first stoppage defeat of his professional career if the long-awaited heavyweight clash goes ahead.
Speaking on the Fight Your Corner podcast, in partnership with Midnite, Fury said the bout could produce either a tactical victory for Tyson or a knockout win for Joshua.
“I have not really thought about it, to be honest. He (Fury) is either going to outbox (him) and he will get to Joshua or Joshua is going to find the target and he will clean him out. So, it is one or the other, is it not? So, we will see which one,” he said.
“I think it all comes down to what game plans they are going to do.”
The proposed all-British heavyweight showdown has been the subject of prolonged negotiations, with both fighters having secured victories in their respective comeback bouts in July.
Fury defeated Mariusz Wach, while Joshua beat Kristian Prenga, raising expectations that an official announcement for their long-awaited meeting would follow.
However, negotiations subsequently stalled.
Reports indicated that organisers had considered staging the bout in New York City, despite Joshua having a contract for a fight in the United Kingdom.
Recent reports now suggest that discussions have progressed and the contest could take place in Cardiff, Wales, in December.
There is, however, no official confirmation yet, with uncertainty also surrounding whether the fight would be staged at a time suitable for Netflix viewers in the United States.
If finalised, the bout would be one of the most anticipated boxing events of 2026.
