Boxing: Fury challenges Usyk to November trilogy fight

Former heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury, has called on Oleksandr Usyk to face him for a third time, saying he is currently searching for an opponent for November.

Fury’s latest comments come amid uncertainty over his proposed heavyweight bout with British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua.

The former champion had earlier indicated that his long-awaited clash with Joshua would take place at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Fury shared a poster on Instagram last Wednesday featuring himself and Joshua against the New York skyline, describing the venue and proposed contest as significant.

“What a place NYC, and what a venue MSG, and what a fight Fury vs AJ, the land of opportunity,” Fury wrote.

“What a weekend away for the lads on the piss in NYC. Iconic! Not long now, guys.”

However, Fury did not provide a date for the Joshua fight in the post.

In an Instagram Story on Sunday, Fury turned his attention to Usyk, while describing Joshua as “weak-minded” and praising the Ukrainian for agreeing to fight him twice previously.

“This will only lead me to a fight with Oleksandr Usyk,” he said.

“Oleksandr, you’re his [Joshua’s] trainer and his sensei, and you know he is weak-minded… and that he would never fight the Gypsy King, which you have had the guts to do twice. You got the decision last time; fair play to you.

“Good luck to you; let’s do it again. Let’s run it back in November. The ball is now in your court… do you want to fight me this year, 2026, or are you calling it quits?

“Let me know because I am now looking for a new opponent,” Fury stated.

A November 20 date has reportedly been identified as the target for the Fury-Joshua bout, following contracts signed by both fighters with Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority.

Despite that, there has yet to be official confirmation that the Joshua-Fury contest will go ahead.

Usyk has already defeated Fury twice, with the Ukrainian now working with Joshua as part of his training and coaching team.

Fury’s latest remarks could therefore pave the way for another meeting with Usyk if the proposed Joshua fight does not materialise.
