Stade Rennais FC came out on top with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Angers SCO at Roazhon Park, a result that lifts them into fifth place in the table and strengthens their push for European qualification.
The hosts made a dream start in the 12th minute when Marius Louër inadvertently turned the ball into his own net under pressure, handing Rennes an early advantage.
The momentum stayed firmly with the home side, and they doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Mousa Al-Taamari finished off a well-worked move to put Rennes in full control before the break.
Angers, however, refused to fold easily and grew into the contest after halftime. Their persistence paid off in the 65th minute when Prosper Peter pulled one back with a composed finish, setting up a tense final half hour as the visitors pushed for an equaliser.
The decisive moment arrived in the 81st minute when Angers were awarded a penalty, but Rennes goalkeeper Brice Samba produced a crucial save to deny Amine Sbaï and preserve his side’s narrow lead.
That intervention proved pivotal in a second half where Rennes were increasingly tested.
Despite Angers’ late pressure, Rennes managed the closing stages with discipline and control. They finished the match with 59.4% possession, 15 attempts on goal, and 11 corners, underlining their dominance for long spells.
Valentin Rongier also stood out in midfield, completing 73 of 78 passes and providing the assist for the second goal as Rennes secured a valuable three points ahead of their trip to Strasbourg, while Angers remain 13th and prepare to host Le Havre.
