Ligue 1: Lyon draw Angers, extend winless run

Olympique Lyonnais’ miserable spell continued as they stretched their winless run in all competitions to nine matches after playing out a goalless draw against Angers SCO in Ligue 1.

Lyon came into the contest hoping to claim a seventh straight head-to-head victory over Angers, but neither side managed to offer much attacking quality during a dull first half.

Afonso Moreira had an early sight of goal for Lyon, although his effort was blocked before it could trouble the goalkeeper.

The visitors’ only shot on target before the break arrived midway through the opening half when Ainsley Maitland-Niles tested Hervé Koffi, who made a routine save.

Angers, who had scored only twice in their previous six games, also struggled to threaten. Their best chance of the first half fell to Jordan Lefort, whose header from a corner sailed over the crossbar.

Lyon looked sharper after the interval and nearly broke the deadlock when Corentin Tolisso found space outside the penalty area, but Koffi reacted well to punch the effort away.

Pavel Sulc then came close for the visitors, firing narrowly wide from close range as Lyon pushed for an opener.

Moreira remained one of Lyon’s brightest performers and later cut inside from the left before sending his effort high over the bar.

Despite both managers making changes in the closing stages, neither side could find the decisive moment as the match ended goalless.
