Serie A: Lazio, Parma play 1-1 draw

Lazio were held to a 1-1 draw by Parma in a tense and scrappy encounter at the Stadio Olimpico, with Tijjani Noslin’s deflected equaliser cancelling out Enrico Delprato’s opener in a result that leaves both sides with work still to do in the closing weeks of the season.

Parma looked the sharper side in the opening stages, showing greater composure in possession and patiently waiting for openings to appear.

Their bright start paid off after 15 minutes when Delprato reacted brilliantly to a free-kick delivery, bringing the ball under control inside the area before drilling a composed finish into the bottom-right corner beyond Edoardo Motta.

Lazio struggled to create any real momentum before the break despite enjoying more of the ball.

Motta, filling in for the injured Ivan Provedel, had to stay alert to deny Emanuele Valeri with a fine save, while at the other end Alessio Romagnoli went close with a header from a corner that Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki pushed away impressively.

Trailing at half-time, Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri turned to his bench just before the hour mark, sending on Noslin, Manuel Lazzari and Matteo Cancellieri in a bid to spark his side into life.

The substitutions gave Lazio fresh urgency, and they eventually found an equaliser in the 77th minute.

Kenneth Taylor slipped a pass into Noslin inside the area, and the forward’s shot took a heavy deflection that wrong-footed Suzuki before rolling into the net.

Parma thought they had a chance to reclaim the lead late on when they appealed for a penalty, but after consulting VAR, referee Matteo Marcenaro decided against pointing to the spot.

The decision angered Parma’s bench, but neither side could find a late winner as the match finished level.

The result keeps Lazio unbeaten during a crucial stage of the campaign, while Parma remain looking nervously over their shoulders with only an eight-point cushion above the relegation zone.
