Police neutralise bandits, arrest gunrunners in Kaduna

The Kaduna State Police Command has announced significant progress in its ongoing campaign against armed banditry and illegal weapons supply networks, confirming the recovery of dozens of firearms and the arrest of several suspects during recent coordinated operations.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kaduna on Monday, Rabiu Muhammad, the Commissioner of Police, said the achievements were recorded over a two-week period through intelligence-driven offensives launched across Kajuru, Tafa, Igabi, and Kauru Local Government Areas.

According to him, operatives raided several hideouts and engaged criminal groups in armed confrontations that forced the dismantling of multiple camps.

“Our officers dislodged several enclaves used by these criminal elements. Some suspects were neutralised during the exchanges, while others escaped with injuries,” he said.

Muhammad explained that police teams arrested several suspected bandits and five alleged gunrunners, in addition to seizing over 30 firearms, including English-made AK-47 rifles, fabricated weapons, pistols and an SMG rifle.

He added that officers also recovered a large quantity of suspected hard drugs believed to have been destined for criminal networks.

“This demonstrates our commitment to cutting off the supply chain that fuels violent crimes,” he added.
