Bodo/Glimt will travel to the San Siro for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout play-off with a vital 3–1 first-leg advantage, after ending Inter Milan’s six-game winning streak with an impressive victory in Norway.
Serie A leaders Inter started brightly, determined not to become the latest European heavyweight to struggle in the Arctic Circle.
Lautaro Martinez nearly gave them an early lead, but a superb block from Jostein Gundersen denied the Argentine just five minutes in.
Despite the early pressure, the Nerazzurri lost their grip on the contest, and Glimt began to grow in confidence. The hosts made the breakthrough in the 20th minute following a slick passing move.
Kasper Hogh produced a delightful flick to release Sondre Brunstad Fet, who calmly finished beyond Yann Sommer.
Inter almost responded immediately. Matteo Darmian struck the post from close range, while Nicolo Barella later fired straight at goalkeeper Nikita Haikin.
The equaliser eventually came on the half-hour mark, as Barella’s cross caused chaos in the box before Pio Esposito turned and blasted the ball into the net.
The Italian side pushed for a second before the break. Darmian forced a smart save from Haikin, Carlos Augusto fired wide, and Sommer had to produce a strong stop to keep out Patrick Berg’s powerful free-kick at the other end.
Inter continued to press after the restart and were inches away from taking the lead. Martinez saw his effort roll just wide of the post after a defensive error, and Haikin later spilled an Augusto free-kick before recovering just in time.
However, their wastefulness proved costly. On the hour mark, Hogh found space at the edge of the box and squared for Jens Petter Hauge, who beat Sommer at his near post to restore Glimt’s lead.
Three minutes later, the hosts struck again. Fet’s delicate chip sent Ole Didrik Blomberg clear, and he squared for Hogh to tap into an empty net and make it 3–1.
Inter struggled to mount a comeback and were fortunate not to concede a fourth, as Sommer denied Andreas Helmersen after a swift counter-attack.
Glimt’s disciplined defending in the closing stages secured another memorable European night, making them the first Norwegian side to win three consecutive Champions League matches.
For Inter, it marked their first-ever defeat against Norwegian opposition.
