The Kano State Censorship Board has directed the immediate closure of all entertainment venues in Kano State ahead of the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, announced the directive in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to him, “effective from Wednesday, 18 February 2026, all such venues, including event centres (gala houses) and Disc Jockey operators, will remain closed until the end of Ramadan.”
He explained that the order officially comes into effect by 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, stressing that the decision is intended to create an environment suitable for religious devotion.
Sulaiman added that the move was taken to ensure that Muslim residents can observe the fasting period without distractions.
“This measure is to allow residents to observe the Ramadan fast and carry out their religious duties in a peaceful and undisturbed atmosphere,” the statement noted.
He further stated that the restriction would remain in place for the entire fasting period.
“The closure will remain in force throughout the fasting period, while the date for reopening especially for Eid activities will be communicated at the appropriate time,” he added.
The Board urged operators and the general public to comply with the order in line with the regulations guiding entertainment activities in the state.
It also expressed goodwill ahead of the holy month, praying for a smooth and blessed Ramadan for the people.
“We pray for a peaceful and healthy observance of the holy month and ask God to grant everyone the grace to witness it in mercy and prosperity,” the statement read.
