Dangote signs $400m deal to expand operations

Dangote Group has entered a $400 million agreement with XCMG Construction Machinery Co., Ltd., one of China’s premier construction equipment manufacturers, to acquire advanced machinery that will accelerate the expansion of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals.

The project aims to scale the refinery’s capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day, positioning it as the largest refinery globally.

The deal will allow the Group to obtain a broad range of cutting-edge construction equipment to support current and upcoming projects across refining, petrochemicals, agriculture, and large-scale infrastructure development.

The newly acquired machinery will complement the equipment already deployed for the refinery expansion, which is expected to be completed within three years.

Beyond crude oil processing, the expansion will boost polypropylene production from 900,000 metric tonnes per year to 2.4 million metric tonnes per year.

Urea production in Nigeria is set to triple from 3 million to 9 million metric tonnes annually, alongside a 3 million metric tonnes per year capacity in Ethiopia, cementing the Group’s status as the world’s largest urea producer.

The programme will also increase Linear Alkyl Benzene production to 400,000 metric tonnes per year, making Dangote Group the largest LAB producer in Africa and strengthening its supply to the detergent and cleaning agents sector.

Additional expansions include base oil production capacity as part of the broader investment plan.

“The additional equipment we are acquiring under this partnership will significantly enhance execution across our projects. With this investment, we are positioning ourselves to become the number one construction company in the world,” the statement said.

Dangote Group continues to advance its expansion and regional market development as it works toward its long-term goal of creating a $100 billion enterprise by 2030.
