Dangote, Honeywell partner to expand refinery, others

Dangote Group has entered a strategic partnership with Honeywell International Inc. to drive the next phase of growth at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

The company stated that the collaboration is set to increase the refinery’s processing capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028, bringing it closer to becoming the largest petroleum refining complex in the world.

According to the agreement, Honeywell will supply advanced catalysts, specialised equipment, and process technologies to enable the refinery to handle a broader range of crude grades while enhancing product quality and operational efficiency.

Honeywell, a Fortune 100 technology and industrial company, has maintained a longstanding relationship with Dangote through its UOP division, which has been providing proprietary refining systems, catalyst regeneration units, column trays, and heat exchanger technologies since 2017.

In addition to refining, Dangote Group is expanding its petrochemical operations. The company plans to boost polypropylene production to 2.4 million metric tons annually using Honeywell’s Oleflex technology.

Polypropylene is an essential industrial material widely used in packaging, manufacturing, and automotive sectors.

The Group is also fast-tracking its fertiliser expansion programme. The refinery noted that Dangote will increase urea production capacity from 3 million to 9 million metric tons annually.

Currently, the plant operates two trains of 1.5 million metric tons each, while the expansion will add four more trains to satisfy rising demand across Africa and global markets.
