Chelsea’s encouraging run under new head coach Liam Rosenior came to a frustrating halt after Leeds United battled back from two goals down to claim a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge, denying the hosts a fifth consecutive Premier League victory.
For much of the contest, it appeared Chelsea were cruising to another comfortable win.
João Pedro opened the scoring with a composed finish, while Cole Palmer doubled the advantage from the penalty spot to leave Leeds struggling to make an impact.
Rosenior’s side had shown renewed confidence on the ball in recent weeks, but their collapse in the second half exposed lingering defensive frailties.
Lukas Nmecha reduced the deficit from the spot after Jayden Bogle was fouled, before a moment of slack defending allowed Bogle to cause confusion in the box, with Noah Okafor reacting quickest to level the scores.
Chelsea had taken the lead in the 24th minute when Enzo Fernández combined neatly with Palmer, whose precise through pass released João Pedro.
The striker timed his run perfectly and lifted a delicate finish over Karl Darlow for his 10th league goal of the season.
The home side’s passing looked sharper and more purposeful under Rosenior, particularly in midfield, where they repeatedly outnumbered their opponents.
Despite dominating possession, they struggled to involve Estêvão, who had often been their spark in recent matches. The youngster eventually came to life early in the second half, weaving through defenders before dragging a low effort wide.
Chelsea were handed their second goal after a costly mistake from Leeds. Robert Sánchez launched a long pass that sent João Pedro through on goal, and Jaka Bijol clumsily shoved the striker to the ground.
Palmer stepped up to convert the resulting penalty and make it 2-0.
Leeds, however, were gifted a route back into the game when Moisés Caicedo tripped Bogle inside the area. Nmecha confidently dispatched the penalty to reduce the arrears.
The goal shifted the momentum. Moments later, Bogle caused panic in the Chelsea defence, winning a loose ball and keeping it alive despite pressure from multiple defenders.
Josh Acheampong then inadvertently presented the ball to Okafor, who tapped into an empty net to complete the comeback.
Chelsea pushed for a late winner, with Pedro Neto curling a cross-shot narrowly wide, João Pedro heading against the crossbar, and Palmer missing a golden opportunity from close range.
In the end, the hosts were left to rue missed chances as two valuable points slipped away.
