Police alert Adamawa communities over planned shooting range exercise

The Adamawa State Police Command has announced plans to conduct a one-day shooting range exercise in parts of the state, urging residents and commuters to remain calm and avoid the affected area during the operation.

According to the police, the exercise will take place on Friday, February 7, 2026, between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the Counter Terrorism Unit Base along Mubi Road in Girei Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the exercise would involve operatives of the Special Protection Unit and is aimed at strengthening the command’s operational capacity.

“Operatives of the Special Protection Unit will carry out a one-day shooting range training at the Counter Terrorism Unit Base along Mubi Road, Girei Local Government Area,” Nguroje stated.

He explained that the drill forms part of ongoing efforts by the command to enhance professionalism, preparedness, and effective service delivery among officers.

The police spokesperson advised residents living around the exercise zone, including NAS Radio Station, Sangere FUTY, and Federal Housing Hayin Gada, to keep away from the area and not be alarmed by the sound of gunfire.

“Members of the public are advised to stay clear of the area and not panic at the sound of gunshots, as the exercise is a controlled training session,” he added.

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Dankombo Morris, assured residents that the exercise poses no threat to public safety.
