La Liga: Atletico crunch Mallorca 3-0

Atlético Madrid cruised to a 3-0 LaLiga triumph over Mallorca, securing back-to-back league wins under Diego Simeone.

Alexander Sorloth opened the scoring in the first half, before a comical own goal from David López and a powerful finish from Thiago Almada sealed the victory.

The win extends Atlético’s unbeaten streak in their last five league matches, while Mallorca remain perilously close to the relegation zone.

Mallorca started brightly, with Mateo Joseph delivering a dangerous corner for Vedat Muriqi, whose header went wide. Atlético responded with chances of their own, including a towering header from David Hancko that sailed over the bar.

Muriqi had another attempt from a Sergi Darder cross, but again failed to find the target. At the other end, Leo Román kept Mallorca in the game with saves from both Sorloth and Giuliano Simeone in quick succession.

The deadlock was broken in the 22nd minute. Marcos Llorente unleashed a thunderous volley that Román did well to parry, only for Sorloth to smash the rebound into the net.

Julián Álvarez nearly doubled the lead before halftime, and Simeone came close to extending it shortly after the break, but his header missed.

Román had to remain alert, saving efforts from Pablo Barrios and dealing with another long-range strike that narrowly missed the target.

Atlético continued to press, with Sorloth’s powerful header held by Román, while Muriqi squandered a great opportunity at the back post.

The hosts finally doubled their lead in the 75th minute when Llorente whipped in a dangerous cross and Mateu Morey’s attempted clearance deflected off David López, wrong-footing Román.

Almada put the result beyond doubt in the 87th minute, capitalizing on a loose ball from a corner and firing it into the top corner.
