EPL: Bournemouth shock Liverpool 3-2

Amine Adli’s dramatic goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time condemned Liverpool to a 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth, deepening the Reds’ struggles in their faltering title defence.

Liverpool had appeared on course for a fifth consecutive Premier League draw after Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai had cancelled out early strikes from Evanilson and Álex Jiménez.

But in the dying moments at the rain-soaked Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth winger Adli produced a moment of chaos to snatch all three points for the Cherries.

The defeat leaves Liverpool fourth in the table, 14 points behind leaders Arsenal, and in danger of dropping out of the Champions League spots depending on results from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, climbed to 13th, sitting comfortably 10 points above the relegation zone.

Cody Gakpo started in place of Hugo Ekitike for Liverpool, fresh from a 3-0 Champions League win in Marseille, while Bournemouth welcomed back captain Adam Smith for the injured Marcus Tavernier.

Despite arriving in Dorset on a 13-match unbeaten run, Liverpool struggled to convert dominance into victory, going four top-flight matches without a win in 2026.

Bournemouth struck first after Van Dijk failed to deal with a long ball from centre-back Marcos Senesi.

Alex Scott’s precise cutback allowed Evanilson to fire in his fifth goal of the season. Liverpool were further hit when Joe Gomez limped off following a collision with goalkeeper Alisson Becker as he attempted to block the opener.

With Liverpool temporarily down to ten men, Bournemouth extended their lead on 33 minutes. James Hill’s defence-splitting pass set up Jiménez, who raced in behind Milos Kerkez and slotted past Alisson for his first Premier League goal.

Liverpool responded, with Van Dijk partially redeeming his earlier error by flicking a Szoboszlai corner into the net just before halftime. But the Reds remained largely ineffective, even after substitutions including Andy Robertson, Ekitike, Curtis Jones, and Rio Ngumoha.

Ten minutes from time, Liverpool finally equalised. Following a foul on Ngumoha outside the Bournemouth box, Salah’s layoff allowed Szoboszlai to smash a low free-kick into the corner.

Alisson then kept Liverpool in the game with a crucial save from Ryan Christie, while Evanilson missed a golden opportunity to restore Bournemouth’s lead.

However, it was Adli who had the final word. After a long throw from Hill created confusion in Liverpool’s penalty area, the Frenchman forced the ball over the line to secure a dramatic victory for the hosts, leaving Liverpool to rue another late collapse.
