EPL: Wilson’s stoppage-time goal hands Fulham 2-1 win over Brighton

Fulham snatched a dramatic 2-1 victory over Brighton at Craven Cottage thanks to a stunning stoppage-time free-kick from Harry Wilson.

The winger, already on seven Premier League goals this season, curled a 20-yard shot into the top corner, beating goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen who could only divert the ball into the net.

The match had looked set for a draw after an uninspiring first half in which Fulham struggled to make an impact in front of their home fans.

Brighton had taken the lead in the 28th minute through a spectacular long-range strike from Yasin Ayari, which slipped through the hands of Bernd Leno despite the goalkeeper’s best efforts.
Fulham responded after the break, with substitute Samuel Chukwueze leveling the score in the 72nd minute.

Joachim Andersen’s precise ball over Olivier Boscagli found Chukwueze, who controlled it expertly and slotted past Verbruggen with ease.

Danny Welbeck came close to putting Brighton back ahead twice, only to be denied first by a tight offside call and then by a smart save from Leno.

Earlier in the match, Fulham had threatened through Kevin, Jorge Cuenca, and Wilson, but none of their early efforts troubled Verbruggen.

Raúl Jiménez also had a chance, first seeing his shot blocked and then volleying off target. Brighton’s Ayari had a second opportunity after Leno saved his initial attempt, but Timothy Castagne cleared the rebound off the line.

Brighton’s season of narrow margins continued, as their inability to convert dominance into victories, with only one win in their last nine matches, left them frustrated.

Despite drawing more games than any other Premier League team this term, the Sussex side couldn’t hold onto their lead here.

Fulham, meanwhile, bounced back from last week’s late defeat to Leeds. While their performance for much of the game had been shaky, Wilson’s brilliant free-kick ensured they left Craven Cottage with all three points, adding another highlight to what has been a remarkable individual campaign for the Welsh winger.
