EPL: Burnley, Tottenham play 2-2 draw

Burnley’s hopes of ending a 14-match Premier League winless run were dashed late as Cristian Romero’s 89th-minute header rescued a 2-2 draw for Tottenham at Turf Moor.

The result offered Spurs a lifeline but did little to ease mounting scrutiny on head coach Thomas Frank.

For Burnley, the frustration was palpable. Scott Parker’s side had been on course for a long-awaited victory, only for Romero’s late intervention to snatch it away, a stark reminder of the narrow margins that define football.

Tottenham, meanwhile, left Lancashire with a point that felt more like relief than progress.

The visitors started brightly, gradually asserting control in a scrappy opening period. Burnley struggled to clear their lines under sustained pressure, and their defensive resilience was eventually breached in the 38th minute.

After a superb double save from Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka denied Wilson Odobert and Conor Gallagher, Micky van de Ven reacted quickest in the box to fire Tottenham ahead, a deserved reward for their early dominance.

Burnley refused to be silenced. In first-half stoppage time, Spurs switched off at the back, allowing Axel Tuanzebe to convert Kyle Walker’s cross and level the score going into the break.

The equaliser shifted the game’s momentum, giving Burnley a surge in confidence against a side that has often struggled to control key moments this season.

Dubravka remained pivotal, denying Dominic Solanke from Xavi Simons’ delivery and turning away a long-range effort from Djed Spence. Each save fueled Burnley’s belief that a win was within reach.

Their perseverance paid off in the 76th minute. Substitute Lyle Foster capitalized on a rebound from Guglielmo Vicario to fire home and put Burnley ahead.

The crowd at Turf Moor sensed a long-awaited victory, buoyed by a performance defined by grit and organisation.

For Tottenham, the prospect of defeat against a struggling side heightened the pressure on Frank.

The visitors threw numbers forward, with Dubravka continuing to frustrate efforts from Mathys Tel and a crossbar from Simons keeping the home side’s nerves tense.

Romero finally delivered in the 89th minute, rising to head Tottenham level and deny Burnley a victory.

The late intervention offered Spurs a crucial point but did little to calm the growing questions over consistency and leadership.

When the final whistle blew, emotions were mixed. Burnley were left to rue another near miss, their pursuit of a win continuing, while Tottenham salvaged a point but gained little certainty in a campaign marked by volatility.

This 2-2 draw highlighted the struggles of both clubs: Burnley chasing a breakthrough and Spurs still searching for stability.
