Family members of popular gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnaanu, widely known for her song Omije Ojumi, have announced plans for her burial following her death earlier this month.
Akinnaanu passed away on January 12 after a prolonged illness linked to a severe leg condition that had kept her away from active music performance in recent months.
Confirming the arrangements, fellow gospel artiste, Alayo Melody, disclosed the details in a social media post on Friday.
“We are grateful for the love and prayers shown to our sister. The family has now fixed the burial programme, and we invite everyone who was touched by her ministry to join us in celebrating her life,” Melody wrote.
According to the schedule, activities will commence on Tuesday, January 20, with a service of songs at the LTV 8 Ground, Ikeja, Lagos. A candlelight procession will follow at 7 p.m., while a tribute and artistes’ night is slated for 8 p.m. the same day.
The interment service will hold on Wednesday, January 21, and will be restricted to family members and close associates.
Before her death, Akinnaanu had openly appealed for prayers as she battled the illness.
“I am trusting God for healing and strength. Please keep me in your prayers,” she had earlier told her followers.
Akinnaanu began singing at the age of 10 and later resigned from a banking career to pursue gospel music full-time. She rose to national prominence with Omije Ojumi, a song that gained wide acceptance in churches and Christian homes across Nigeria.
Tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues and fans, who describe her as a passionate worshipper and a minister whose music brought comfort to many.
