Bright Osayi-Samuel believes the Super Eagles’ defence is ready to cope with the attacking threat Algeria will bring when both sides clash in Saturday’s AFCON 2025 quarter-final.
Questions had been raised about Nigeria’s backline after conceding goals in all three Group C matches.
Those doubts were eased in the round of 16, where the Super Eagles recorded their first clean sheet of the tournament in an emphatic 4-0 victory over Mozambique.
Now, Eric Chelle’s defensive unit faces a tougher challenge against an Algerian side that, like Nigeria, is on a four-match winning run.
“We are playing against a team that score lots of goals as well and have conceded few goals so this are two big teams going against each other and as a defensive group we are confident,” Osayi-Samuel said ahead of Friday’s training session.
Asked what gives the Super Eagles an edge over Algeria, the former Fenerbahce player pointed to team unity.
“I think the chemistry. If you see the last few games everyone is gelling together, everyone is playing to each other’s strengths and us getting use to the formation, every formation takes time and I think the last three games we’ve been working together as a team and scoring goals.
“It was better in the last game we played, we had a clean sheet and we will like to do that against Algeria.”
