Ademola Lookman has made it clear that individual accolades are not on his mind at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, stressing that his priority is helping the Super Eagles progress further in the competition.
The Atalanta forward has been among Nigeria’s standout players in Morocco, playing a key role as the Super Eagles stormed into the quarter-finals with an emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique.
Lookman found the net once in the round-of-16 clash and also set up goals for Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams, underlining his influence in the team’s attacking display. His strike took his tally to three goals at this year’s tournament.
However, when quizzed about a possible push for the Golden Boot, the winger played down any personal ambition, responding simply, “No.”
“Personally I’m just thinking about the team, now we are in the quarter-finals our next opponent is going to be another strong team. We scored four goals, another big performance for the team so that’s what I care about.”
With three goals already, Lookman has now matched his total from the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire, and could surpass that mark as Nigeria continue their campaign in Morocco.
