Ligue 1: Doué, Dembélé score as PSG edge Paris FC 2-1

Ousmane Dembélé struck the decisive blow after the break as Paris Saint-Germain edged Paris FC 2-1 to maintain supremacy in the French capital at the Parc des Princes.

The cross-city rivals had not faced each other in Ligue 1 since a 1-1 draw in 1978, and PSG ensured they kept the upper hand in just their fourth top-flight meeting.

PSG went ahead just before halftime through Désiré Doué, who finished clinically after Fabián Ruiz intercepted a loose pass in midfield and slipped him through on goal.

The hosts had dominated the opening period, with Kevin Trapp forced into several saves to deny Senny Mayulu and Ruiz, while João Neves, Doué and Vitinha also went close.

Against the run of play, Paris FC drew level six minutes into the second half. Alimami Gory was fouled by Illia Zabarnyi as he drove into the area from the left, and Willem Geubbels calmly converted the resulting penalty to the delight of the underdogs.

The equaliser briefly stunned PSG, but the response was immediate. Warren Zaïre-Emery released Dembélé down the right on the counter, and his curling effort took a wicked deflection to beat Trapp and restore the champions’ lead.

Bradley Barcola later threatened to extend the advantage, yet PSG were largely comfortable as they managed the closing stages with authority.

Paris FC offered little going forward, aside from a short burst of energy from substitute Vincent Marchetti, whose efforts were dealt with by Lucas Chevalier.

The victory lifts PSG to within a point of Ligue 1 leaders Lens, while the two Paris sides are set to meet again on January 12 in the French Cup round of 32.
