Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his rich vein of form as Leeds United fought back to secure a 1-1 Premier League draw against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
The result stretched Leeds’ unbeaten run to five matches in the league, with Calvert-Lewin once again at the heart of the action.
Sunderland had taken the lead in the 28th minute through a sublime finish from Simon Adingra.
Leeds came close to an equaliser before halftime, with Brian Brobbey hitting the crossbar in stoppage time, while Trai Hume produced a sensational goal-line block to deny Brenden Aaronson.
The breakthrough for Leeds came early in the second half. Aaronson’s precise delivery found Calvert-Lewin, who calmly converted in the 47th minute to make it six consecutive Premier League games with a goal.
Leeds pushed for a winner, with Jayden Bogle missing a close-range chance, but neither side could find a decisive strike.
Calvert-Lewin’s scoring streak is the longest by an English player in the Premier League since Jamie Vardy hit the net in eight straight games in 2019.
Notably, his goal was crafted through a remarkable team move involving all 11 Leeds players, just the second such goal in the Premier League this season.
Aaronson, whose display included five created chances, three shots, and 15 touches in Sunderland’s box, was pivotal in orchestrating the equaliser.
Despite Leeds registering 2.03 expected goals to Sunderland’s 0.65, the visitors had to settle for a point.
