Crystal Palace bounced back from their weekend setback against Manchester United by grinding out a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor, thanks to a decisive first-half header from Daniel Muñoz and a crucial late save by Dean Henderson.
Both goalkeepers were called into action early, with Burnley’s Martin Dubravka denying Jean-Philippe Mateta before Henderson tipped Jaidon Anthony’s curling strike around the post.
The breakthrough arrived just before the interval, as Marc Guehi whipped in a superb delivery that Muñoz expertly guided into the bottom corner, leaving Dubravka helpless.
Burnley stepped up the pressure after the restart, and Henderson produced a spectacular save, getting just enough on Jacob Bruun Larsen’s fierce effort to steer it onto the bar.
The hosts almost found a late equaliser when Armando Broja beat Henderson to a cross, but Chris Richards responded quickly to clear the ball off the line and preserve Palace’s lead.
Despite Burnley posting a higher expected goals tally (0.88 from 11 attempts) than Palace (0.59 from three shots), the Eagles’ resilience shone through and none more than captain Guehi.
The defender dominated defensively with a perfect aerial-duel record (8/8), 10 clearances, plus a match-high 83 touches and 54 successful passes, capped by his pinpoint assist.
Muñoz’s goal extends an impressive milestone, since the start of last season, no Premier League defender has scored more than him (seven), with the Colombian finding the net in three of his last four away outings in the competition.
