The Association of Resident Doctors under the Federal Capital Territory Administration has suspended its indefinite strike after a month-long industrial action that severely affected medical services across Abuja.
The President of the association, Dr George Ebong, confirmed the suspension in a message to journalists on Monday, noting that the decision followed the approval of their demands by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
According to him, the strike, which began on November 1, 2025, has been placed on hold for four weeks to allow for full implementation of the agreed resolutions.
“ARD-FCTA has suspended its strike for four weeks with the hope that the approvals from Mr. Minister will be implemented,” Dr. Ebong said.
The association, which comprises resident doctors working across 14 district and general hospitals as well as the Department of Public Health under the FCTA, had embarked on the industrial action to demand improved working conditions, better welfare packages, fair remuneration, and enhanced service delivery structures.
The strike caused significant disruptions in healthcare facilities within the FCT, resulting in service delays and increased workload for the limited staff on duty.
Despite suspending the action, the doctors warned that they may return to the picket lines if the FCTA fails to act on the minister’s approvals within the four-week window.
