UCL: Chelsea crush 10-man Barcelona 3-0

Chelsea delivered a ruthless attacking display at Stamford Bridge, sweeping aside 10-man Barcelona 3-0 in a UEFA Champions League, league-phase encounter that produced their biggest-ever winning margin over the Spanish giants and pushed them into the provisional top eight.

The atmosphere crackled from the outset as an early Chelsea goal was chalked off for handball, moments before Ferran Torres somehow steered a golden chance wide from close range at the other end.

As the contest settled, the Blues showed greater intent, though Barca looked dangerous on the counter through the lively Lamine Yamal.

Midway through the first half, Enzo Fernández headed in Estevão’s free-kick, only for VAR to intervene again for an offside call.

Chelsea finally broke through when Marc Cucurella’s low delivery caused chaos in the Barcelona box.

Neither Torres nor Jules Kounde managed to clear their lines, and the ball trickled over the line off Kounde’s boot to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Barcelona pushed for a response, but Moisés Caicedo’s command in midfield ensured the home side maintained control with minimal fuss.

The visitors’ task worsened just before the interval when Ronald Araújo received a second yellow card for a reckless lunge on Cucurella, leaving Xavi’s side with a mountain to climb.

Chelsea emerged from the break in total control, though Andrey Santos saw a second goal ruled out due to Alejandro Garnacho straying offside in the buildup.

There was no denying the Blues for long. Estevão produced a brilliant solo run and clinical finish to double the advantage, prompting Barcelona to introduce Marcus Rashford and Raphinha in a bid to turn the tide, to little effect.

Instead, Chelsea’s own substitute, Liam Delap, iced the game with his first-ever UCL goal, finishing confidently at the far post after Fernández sprung Barcelona’s offside trap by mere centimetres.

With just one defeat in their last 10 meetings against the Catalans, Chelsea will view this performance as a statement of their European credentials.

The win extends their unbeaten streak to six matches, while Barcelona now face the unwelcome prospect of slipping into the Champions League play-off zone as the group stage intensifies.
