Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has dismissed allegations by his estranged wife, Regina Daniels, that he married her when she was 17 years old, describing the claim as “false, misleading, and malicious.”
In a statement shared across his social media handles on Thursday, Nwoko said the allegation was part of a calculated attempt to tarnish his image amid their ongoing marital dispute.
“It has come to my attention that false claims are being circulated by Regina, suggesting that I married her when she was 17 years old. These claims are entirely untrue and misleading,” the lawmaker said.
The senator explained that during his first meeting with the actress, she informed him that she was 21 years old and presented an Independent National Electoral Commission voter’s card as proof of her age.
“During our first meeting, she told me she was 21 years old. I asked if she had any document to support that, and she presented her INEC voter’s card showing her date of birth as October 10, 1998. I decided to keep the document, and I have done so ever since,” Nwoko stated.
He further clarified that their marriage took place six years ago, insisting that by verifiable records, Regina is currently 27 years old.
“According to all available records, our marriage took place six years ago, which means Regina is 27 years old today. Any claim that I married her at 17 is false and should be disregarded,” he said.
Nwoko also alleged that his estranged wife’s recent claims were influenced by her “current mental condition,” adding that she had started but failed to complete a rehabilitation programme for drug addiction.
“The facts are verifiable and indisputable. Until these facts are confirmed, I urge the public to treat all her statements with caution, especially considering her current mental condition, having started and abandoned rehabilitation from illegal drug use,” he noted.
The senator’s reaction follows weeks of public exchanges between the couple over allegations of domestic violence and drug use.
Earlier, Regina Daniels had admitted to using illicit substances, accusing her husband of introducing her to drugs for sexual purposes — a claim Nwoko strongly denied. He alleged that Regina’s brother, Sammy Daniels, was responsible for exposing her to drugs and frustrating efforts to rehabilitate her.
The situation escalated after Sammy’s arrest in Lagos, subsequent transfer to Abuja, and court arraignment, after which he was remanded pending bail conditions.
Amid the controversy, Regina recently revealed that her parents had reconciled after years of estrangement, following the family’s ongoing crisis.
Nwoko maintained that his wife’s struggle with substance abuse had strained their marriage, reiterating his call for her to seek proper rehabilitation.
