The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the ongoing Anambra State election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has emerged victorious at his polling unit in Osumenyi, Nnewi South Local Government Area.
According to The PUNCH, the Presiding Officer, Ifeanyichukwu Chikams Peace, announced the results at about 4:01 pm on Saturday.
At Polling Unit 12, Ward 2, Umudiala village, Ukachukwu secured 108 votes in Booth 1, while the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance polled four votes. In Booth 2 of the same unit, the APC scored 126 votes against APGA’s six votes.
Earlier, shortly after casting his ballot, Ukachukwu alleged widespread vote buying in several parts of the state, warning that the practice poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s electoral integrity.
He also claimed that some party agents were attacked in areas including Utuh, calling on security agencies to act swiftly to curb electoral malpractice.
Despite the concerns, Ukachukwu expressed confidence in the electoral process and his party’s chances, commending the Independent National Electoral Commission for the early deployment of materials and personnel which, according to him, contributed to a smooth voting exercise.
Vote counting is currently underway across the state, where 16 candidates are contesting to unseat the incumbent governor, Chukwuma Soludo of APGA.
