Luis Díaz delivered a rollercoaster performance on Tuesday night, scoring twice before being sent off as Bayern Munich secured a hard-fought 2–1 win over defending champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
The Colombian winger opened the scoring just four minutes in at the Parc des Princes, reacting quickest after Michael Olise’s effort was parried by Lucas Chevalier.
He doubled Bayern’s advantage on 32 minutes, punishing a mistake from Marquinhos with a composed finish.
However, Díaz’s night took a dramatic turn before halftime when his reckless challenge on Achraf Hakimi left the Moroccan full-back in tears and unable to continue.
Initially shown a yellow card, the referee upgraded it to red after a VAR review, forcing Bayern to play the entire second half with ten men.
Despite the setback, Vincent Kompany’s side showed remarkable resilience. João Neves pulled one back for PSG in the 74th minute after Lee Kang-in’s deflected cross, but Bayern held firm to maintain their perfect record.
Harry Kane, meanwhile, endured a quiet night, unable to add to his 25 goals for club and country this season.
The win keeps Bayern’s incredible run alive, 16 victories in 16 matches across all competitions, with 56 goals scored and a flawless 12 points from four Champions League games.
They remain one of only two clubs with a perfect record in the 36-team format, alongside Arsenal.
For PSG, the defeat was overshadowed by injury concerns. Hakimi’s ankle injury and Ousmane Dembélé’s early exit with a hamstring issue added to Luis Enrique’s growing worries.
With Morocco set to host the Africa Cup of Nations next month, Hakimi’s condition will be closely monitored.
Though PSG remain well placed to advance in the competition, their depth will be tested in the coming weeks.
This latest encounter, a rematch of the 2020 final won by Bayern, once again highlighted the Germans’ grit and Díaz’s dramatic blend of brilliance and recklessness in a tense night in Paris.
