UCL: Pepi rescues point for PSV against Olympiakos

PSV Eindhoven snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw against Olympiakos on Tuesday, thanks to Ricardo Pepi’s stoppage-time strike that denied the Greek side their first Champions League victory of the season.

Pepi reacted quickest in the 93rd minute, tucking home a rebound after Joey Veerman’s free kick caused chaos in the box.

The equaliser came after Olympiakos had taken a deserved lead in the 17th minute through Gelson Martins, who blasted home a ferocious strike following a long clearance from goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskakis.

Despite their early advantage, Olympiakos failed to capitalise on their dominance. Chiquinho’s curling effort midway through the first half forced PSV goalkeeper Matej Kovar into a fine save, while Martins rattled the crossbar after the break and later squandered a golden chance to double the lead with just minutes left.

PSV, who thrashed Napoli 6-2 in their previous Champions League outing, were far from their fluent best and managed few real chances aside from Ismael Saibari’s disallowed goal for offside.

Still, they escaped with a point that lifts them to five from four matches, while Olympiakos sit on two.

The result means Olympiakos move up to 31st in the standings, while PSV slip to 17th.

Next up, Olympiakos host Real Madrid on November 26, while PSV travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on the same day.
