EPL: Mbeumo scores brace as Man Utd beat Brighton 4-2

Bryan Mbeumo struck twice as Manchester United clinched a thrilling 4-2 victory over Brighton at Old Trafford, securing their third consecutive Premier League win and finally breaking their long-standing jinx against the Seagulls.

Brighton had dominated recent meetings, winning six of the last seven and triumphing on their previous three trips to Old Trafford.

But Ruben Amorim’s men turned the tide in style, building on last weekend’s famous win at Anfield to climb into fourth place.

Matheus Cunha opened his United account with a powerful 20-yard drive before Casemiro’s deflected strike doubled the lead.

Mbeumo extended the advantage early in the second half to make it 3-0, seemingly putting the contest to bed.

However, the hosts endured another late scare as former United striker Danny Welbeck pulled one back with a free-kick, and teenage substitute Charalampos Kostoulas headed home in stoppage time to make it 3-2.

Just when the pressure was mounting, Mbeumo calmed nerves with a composed finish deep into injury time, sealing a statement win and marking Amorim’s first hat-trick of league victories since taking charge last November.
