Fenerbahçe claimed a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Fatih Karagümrük in their Matchweek 9 fixture of the Trendyol Süper Lig Mehmet Ali Yılmaz Season, played at the Chobani Stadium, Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Sports Complex.
The win extended the Yellow Canaries’ unbeaten home run and kept them firmly in contention near the top of the table.
The hosts began the match on the front foot, creating several early chances through Marco Asensio and Nene, whose quick interplay constantly stretched the Karagümrük defence.
Their pressure paid off in the 23rd minute when Nene was brought down inside the box by Jure Balkovec after a dazzling solo run.
Following a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty, and Anderson Talisca made no mistake, calmly sending goalkeeper Grbić the wrong way to open the scoring.
Fenerbahçe doubled their advantage in the 41st minute after a beautifully worked team move. Kerem Aktürkoğlu drove down the left flank and squared the ball into the six-yard box, where Asensio arrived unmarked to slot home from close range.
The goal capped a dominant first-half performance from Domenico Tedesco’s men, who dictated possession and tempo with confidence.
However, the visitors came out stronger after the break. They pulled one back in the 59th minute when Serginho found space on the right and rifled a powerful shot past goalkeeper Tarık into the far corner.
Karagümrük continued to threaten with efforts from Ahmet Sivri and Tiago Çukur, but Tarık produced a series of vital saves to preserve Fenerbahçe’s slender lead.
The game’s intensity remained high until the closing stages, but Karagümrük’s hopes of a comeback faded in the 83rd minute when Balkovec received his second yellow card for a reckless challenge on Szymanski, leaving his team with ten men.
Fenerbahçe managed the final minutes professionally to secure the win and move up to 19 points in the league.
They now turn their attention to the UEFA Europa League, where they will host VfB Stuttgart on Thursday, October 23, in what promises to be another exciting contest at Kadıköy.
