Loum Tchaouna’s spectacular long-range strike sealed Burnley’s 2-0 victory over Leeds United in a Premier League clash between two newly-promoted teams at Turf Moor.
The French forward, a summer signing from Lazio, came off the bench to score his first goal for the Clarets in stunning fashion, a swerving 30-yard effort that left Leeds goalkeeper helpless and secured a vital three points for Vincent Kompany’s men.
Earlier, veteran full-back Kyle Walker rolled back the years with a moment of brilliance in the 18th minute, sending in a perfectly weighted cross for Lesley Ugochukwu to head home.
It was the French midfielder’s second goal since joining from Chelsea in a £23 million deal, giving Burnley a deserved first-half lead.
Leeds, who were second best for most of the opening spell, nearly equalised shortly after when Jack Harrison’s clever run teed up Brenden Aaronson, but the American’s low strike was tipped onto the post by Martin Dúbravka.
The Burnley keeper then safely gathered Anton Stach’s curling free-kick to preserve the advantage before the break.
The visitors began the second half with renewed intent, pressing high and firing crosses into the box, but Burnley’s defensive pairing of Maxime Estève and Axel Tuanzebe stood firm.
Harrison and substitute Lukas Nmecha both missed presentable chances as Daniel Farke’s side continued to waste opportunities.
Then came the moment of magic. With Leeds still pushing for an equaliser, substitute Tchaouna picked up a pass from Florentino Luis and unleashed a thunderbolt from distance that rocketed into the top corner, doubling Burnley’s lead in the 68th minute.
Despite late efforts from Joël Piroe, Pascal Struijk, and Joe Rodon, Leeds failed to find a breakthrough, as Dúbravka remained largely untroubled in the Burnley goal.
The win ended Burnley’s five-game winless run and lifted them out of the relegation zone, while Leeds, beaten for the fourth time this season, stay 15th and searching for consistency in their Premier League return.
