The National Human Rights Commission in Kano State says it received a total of 172 complaints of alleged human rights violations in September 2025.
The State Coordinator of the Commission, Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Kano.
According to Abdullahi, 122 of the complaints have been resolved, while 50 cases remain pending.
“Out of the 172 cases received in September, 130 were related to the rights of children and women,” he said.
He explained that 32 of the cases involved abandonment of family responsibilities and domestic violence, while 10 others concerned economic, cultural, labour, and physical rights violations.
“The Commission also handled several cases involving marital disputes, where we intervened to mediate between couples and promote peaceful resolution,” Abdullahi added.
He urged couples to exercise patience and humility in handling family issues to prevent domestic conflicts that could escalate into rights violations.
PUNCH Online recalls that in March 2024, the NHRC in Kano recorded 130 cases of alleged human rights abuses, out of which 111 were resolved and 19 remained pending.
At that time, most of the complaints involved violations of children’s and women’s rights, including cases of domestic violence and abandonment of family responsibilities.
The NHRC continues to advocate for respect for human rights across all sectors and encourages citizens to report cases of abuse for prompt intervention.
