Newcastle United secured a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, extending manager Ange Postecoglou’s challenging start at the club.
The Australian coach came under intense pressure after Forest’s 3-2 Europa League loss to Midtjylland on Thursday, with fans calling for his dismissal just six games into his tenure.
Postecoglou now becomes the first Forest manager in over a century to go winless in his first seven matches, leaving his future uncertain as the club approaches the international break.
Newcastle, who had claimed just one win from their first six Premier League fixtures, were propelled to victory by Bruno Guimaraes.
The Brazilian midfielder broke the deadlock with a superb strike from outside the box in the 58th minute.
Later, Guimaraes dispossessed former teammate Elliot Anderson in the box, earning a penalty which Nick Woltemade confidently converted, curling the ball into the top corner for his fourth goal since joining from Stuttgart last month.
The result leaves Forest in 17th place, a familiar position for Postecoglou, who was dismissed by Tottenham last season despite winning the Europa League.
