Lyon extended their impressive start to the Ligue 1 campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Lille on Sunday, moving level on 15 points with defending champions Paris Saint-Germain at the summit of the table.
Former Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton proved the difference, heading in Nicolas Tagliafico’s precise delivery in the 13th minute to secure Lyon’s fifth win in six games under Paulo Fonseca.
Despite their dominance in possession, Lille could not find a way past Lyon’s inspired goalkeeper Dominik Greif, who pulled off a series of crucial saves, most notably denying Osame Sahraoui’s thunderous strike in stoppage time.
The frustration boiled over for Lille manager Bruno Genesio, who was sent off in the closing stages after angrily kicking a water bottle toward the fourth official.
The defeat, Lille’s second in succession, leaves them sixth on 10 points, while Lyon remain just behind PSG on goal difference after the champions’ 2-0 triumph over Auxerre on Saturday.
Elsewhere in the league, Brest climbed into ninth spot thanks to a 2-0 success over struggling Angers, while basement side Metz were held to a goalless draw by Le Havre.
Nice looked set for victory until Jean-Philippe Krasso converted an 88th-minute penalty to earn Paris FC a 1-1 draw, cancelling out Sofiane Diop’s earlier strike.
The round concludes later on Sunday with Rennes hosting Lens.
