Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has provided an update on the fitness of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Noni Madueke ahead of the Gunners’ Premier League clash against Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday.
Addressing the media during his pre-match press conference on Friday, Arteta was asked about the availability of the trio.
On Odegaard, the Spaniard said, “Martin will be training with us the next two days, so hopefully he’ll be available for the game.”
Saka, who featured for 63 minutes in Arsenal’s 2-0 Carabao Cup third-round win away to Port Vale on Wednesday before being replaced by Max Dowman, was also discussed.
Explaining the decision, Arteta said the substitution had been pre-planned.
“Yeah, nothing to report there. I think he played the games that we anticipated, he did well, he feels good and he will be training the next few days.”
On Madueke, who was forced off at half-time in their 1-1 draw with Manchester City last weekend, Arteta revealed the club is still awaiting medical confirmation.
“The scan hasn’t yet taken place,” he confirmed.
The Arsenal boss added that there were no fresh updates on other sidelined players, including Piero Hincapie (groin), Kai Havertz (knee), and Gabriel Jesus (knee).
