Arsenal are anxiously awaiting the outcome of medical checks on Noni Madueke after the winger limped off with a knee problem during Sunday’s clash with Manchester City, according to The Guardian.
The 22-year-old is due to undergo scans on Monday, with the club hopeful the injury will not sideline him for an extended period.
His setback comes at a time when Mikel Arteta’s side are already stretched by fitness concerns. Kai Havertz is out with a knee issue, captain Martin Ødegaard missed the City game with a shoulder problem, and Bukayo Saka only just returned from a month-long hamstring layoff.
Signed from Chelsea for £48.5m in the summer, Madueke provided valuable cover on the right flank during Saka’s absence and quickly settled into Arteta’s attack.
Against City, however, he lasted only until halftime, when Saka replaced him in the 1-1 draw.
Arteta explained afterwards that Madueke “had an issue very early in the match and he wasn’t well enough to continue”.
Despite the scare, Arsenal remain optimistic. Madueke has made an encouraging start to life at the Emirates and recently caught the eye with England, scoring in a 5-0 victory over Serbia earlier this month. Early indications suggest his layoff may not be long-term.
