Former Manchester United captain, Gary Neville, has taken a swipe at Mikel Arteta’s tactical approach after Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
Neville was unimpressed with the Gunners’ style of play in possession, as they fell to their first loss of the campaign.
The game saw few clear chances created from open play, before Dominic Szoboszlai sealed victory for the Reds with a superbly taken free-kick.
Arsenal struggled to make an impact going forward, managing just a single effort on target over the course of the match.
“Passing back has become a disease in the game,” Neville said on Sky Sports.
“Honestly, if Declan Rice or any of them had it 50-60 yards up the pitch they wouldn’t pass it into Gyokeres’ feet at the edge of the box, but they’ll do it in their own box.
“It’s incredible! It’s like they’re programmed.”
