The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that the Continuous Voter Registration exercise for the 2025 general elections will begin on Monday, August 18, 2025, with both online and in-person registration options available to eligible Nigerians.

In a statement posted on the Commission’s official X handle (formerly Twitter), INEC revealed that online pre-registration will open first via the portal [cvr.inecnigeria.org], followed by physical registration starting Monday, August 25, 2025, at all INEC Local Government Area offices and designated centres across the country.

The statement read, “This exercise is for Nigerians who have attained voting age or those who were unable to register in previous exercises. We encourage all eligible citizens to either begin the process online or visit our offices and designated centres once the physical registration begins.”

The in-person registration will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, and will continue for a period yet to be specified by the Commission.

INEC also clarified that the CVR is not limited to new registrants alone. The process accommodates those who wish to transfer their voting location, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct errors in personal information such as names and dates of birth.

The Commission emphasized its commitment to ensuring an inclusive and transparent electoral process, stating, “Our goal is to ensure every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to exercise their civic right. We are working to make the voter registration process accessible, transparent, and inclusive.”

INEC urged citizens to seize this opportunity to prepare ahead of the upcoming elections and participate actively in shaping the country’s democratic future.
