The Jigawa State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its efforts to curb criminal activities across the state, with the recovery of a stolen vehicle and arrests of suspected cable vandals and drug traffickers in separate operations.
The command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Shi’isu Adam, disclosed this in a statement released to journalists on Sunday in Dutse, the state capital.
He said the police retrieved a stolen Kia Sorento with registration number GWL 225 BB, taken from the Gugungu Market in Taura Local Government Area on July 14, 2025.
“Following credible intelligence, detectives from the Surveillance Unit of Gujungu Division swung into action and, through a coordinated and intelligence-led operation, traced the vehicle to Kanya Babba village in Babura LGA,” the statement said.
Although the suspects managed to escape before the police arrived, SP Adam confirmed that efforts are ongoing to arrest them.
He added that the stolen vehicle was returned to its rightful owner after thorough verification.
In another operation, police operatives arrested a suspected cable vandal, identified as Abubakar Sadi, a 25-year-old from Kofar Waika in Kano State.
The suspect was apprehended around 3:00 a.m. on July 15 while others fled the scene into nearby bushes.
“Recovered items included several vandalised electrical cables and a vehicle used for the illegal activity,” the PPRO noted.
Meanwhile, a separate anti-drug raid carried out by officers from ‘B’ Division Hadejia and Shuwarin Division on July 19 led to the arrest of multiple suspects at identified black spots.
One of the suspects, Isah Mohd, was found in possession of various controlled substances including rubber solution, D5 and Exol tablets, Tramadol capsules, and dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
SP Adam stated, “The suspects will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations. We’re also making efforts to apprehend others who fled.”
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Dahiru, lauded their swift action and reaffirmed the command’s dedication to protecting lives and property.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
“Together, we can ensure that criminal elements are weeded out of our communities,” the statement concluded.
