A Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State has ordered the remand of 39-year-old Victor Kiere at the Awarjigoh Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl.

Chief Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni issued the remand order on Wednesday after Kiere pleaded not guilty to the charges. The magistrate directed that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice. The case was adjourned until August 21 for ruling on bail application and receipt of the DPP’s advice.

Police prosecutor Edet Ekpo told the court that the alleged offense occurred in April at approximately 6:00 p.m. in Asheri Community Phase 2, Owode-Apa, Badagry.

“The defendant did have sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old girl without her consent,” Ekpo stated. “He unlawfully penetrated sexually the vagina of a 16-year-old girl with his penis.”

The charges contravene Sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which deal with unlawful sexual intercourse with minors and sexual assault, respectively.
