At least 10 individuals are feared dead following a fatal road accident that occurred on Tuesday morning along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near the Iwo Road axis in Oyo State.
The horrific collision involved three Nissan Micra taxis and three heavy-duty trucks, all reportedly heading from the Iwo Road area before the accident took place.
Eyewitnesses at the scene described a chaotic and heart-wrenching aftermath, with emergency responders battling to extract mutilated bodies trapped within the wreckage.
“It was a terrible sight. I saw some people who were still breathing, but many had already passed on before help could come,” said a commercial driver who narrowly escaped the crash. “These trucks drive recklessly on this road every day. Something must be done.”
As of the time of filing this report, emergency services were still at the scene, working to recover bodies and clear the debris to restore vehicular movement on the busy highway.
A Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the incident but said the official death toll would be released after ongoing rescue operations were completed.
“We can confirm that multiple lives have been lost in this unfortunate incident, but we are still working to determine the exact number,” the officer said. “Motorists are advised to use alternative routes for now.”
