Modric reportedly reaches verbal agreement with Milan

Luka Modric is set to bid farewell to Real Madrid following the Club World Cup, and all signs point to him opting for AC Milan before donning the iconic white shirt one last time during Real’s summer tour of the United States.

Real Madrid confirmed that Modric would move on after the Club World Cup, as the club, under incoming head coach Xabi Alonso, looks to refresh its midfield.

At 39, Modric is determined to remain in Europe to maintain top‐flight fitness ahead of next summer’s World Cup, and he appears to have pinpointed his future destination.

On Tuesday, Sky Sport Italia reported that AC Milan have long admired Modric, and that interest has now crystallised into a verbal understanding between player and club, with hopes of finalising terms in the next day or two.

Since Madrid announced his departure, Modric’s name has been linked to several teams, including Rayo Vallecano, but it has increasingly become evident that his next chapter will be in Milan colours.

Such a move would benefit everyone involved: despite his age, Modric has demonstrated this season that he can still influence games at the highest level, while Milan would acquire a seasoned champion capable of pushing them forward next term.

Although nothing is officially sealed yet, it is growing ever more likely that once the Club World Cup wraps up in July, Modric will swap the Santiago Bernabéu for the San Siro.
