Former Senator for Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has criticized the National Population Commission for requesting a budget of nearly ₦942 billion to conduct the upcoming national census, calling it “total madness.”
The NPC had proposed a ₦942 billion budget for this year’s housing and population census, raising concerns about the substantial expenditure.
Reports have since emerged that President Bola Tinubu rejected the NPC’s request and is now considering deploying National Youth Service Corps members for the exercise instead.
Reacting to this development, Shehu Sani expressed his strong disapproval of the proposed budget.
He took to X, where he wrote: “National Population Commission request for almost a trillion naira just to count the number of Nigerians is total madness. The rejection of their budget is commendable.”
