FG to implement tolling on Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Makurdi Expressway

The Federal Government has revealed plans to introduce tolls on the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Makurdi Expressway on Tuesday.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during the inauguration of the new tolling system at the Garaku Toll Station in Nasarawa State.

The toll fees will range from N500 for saloon cars to N1,600 for multi-axle vehicles. Umahi explained that the revenue generated from the tolls would be used for the maintenance of federal roads across Nigeria.

Represented by his junior colleague, Bello Goronyo, the minister emphasized the importance of the road corridor for Nigeria’s economic, social, and strategic development. He highlighted that the toll collection would generate vital funds to support the upkeep and expansion of the country’s road network.

The newly gazetted Toll Order/Fee Schedule specifies that saloon cars will be charged N500; SUVs and Jeeps, N800; minibuses, N1,000; and multi-axle vehicles, N1,600. However, commercial light vehicles, as defined under the Federal Highway Act, will receive a 50% discount for frequent use of the road.

Additionally, vehicles belonging to law enforcement agencies, including the police and military, as well as other essential service vehicles, will be exempt from the tolls.

He said, “The collection of tolls will generate much-needed revenue for the maintenance and expansion of our roads.

“However, frequent road users like commercial light vehicles as defined under the Federal Highway Act would enjoy a 50 per cent discount,” the minister stated.
