Voting has been delayed at Polling Unit 5, Ward 11, Azama Primary School, due to a malfunctioning Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machine, preventing reinstated Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and other voters from casting their ballots.
The issue began earlier in the day when the initially deployed BVAS machine failed to work, according to Independent.
In response, the Independent National Electoral Commission promptly replaced the faulty device.
However, the new machine also malfunctioned at approximately 12:20 pm, further delaying the voting process.
The situation has created a tense atmosphere among voters, who are eagerly awaiting a resolution. INEC officials are currently on site, working to resolve the technical issue and ensure the voting process commences smoothly.
Notably, CCTV cameras have been strategically positioned around the voting center to ensure the integrity of the electoral process and prevent potential malpractices.
As of the time of this report, voting has not commenced in Shaibu’s unit, sparking concerns among voters.
The technical challenges hindering the smooth conduct of the Edo State governorship election are being closely monitored.
