Edo 2024: Group raises alarm over alleged importation of thugs

A socio-cultural group, Edo Collectives, has raised concerns about the alleged importation of thugs into Edo State, barely a week before the governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

The group accuses the All Progressives Congress of being behind the influx of thugs, mostly from Kogi and Imo states, aimed at disrupting the election, according to Daily Post.

Edo Collectives’ spokesman, Ese Ipboba, warned against electoral violence, emphasizing the determination of Edo people to ensure a peaceful election and protect their votes.

The Peoples Democratic Party refused to sign the Peace Accord, citing the arrest and detention of its members by the Police.

The APC and 16 other political parties signed the Peace Accord on September 12, 2024, in Benin City, after initially threatening to boycott the event.

“We will not allow them to come and disrupt the election. And we shall not give them the latitude to write results without recourse to the electorates,” he said.
