The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission has announced a new date for the upcoming local government elections.
The elections, previously scheduled for November 26, will now take place on October 30.
According to KANSIEC Chairman Sani Malumfashi, the decision to reschedule was made in response to a recent Supreme Court ruling and an agreement between state and federal governments.
The new date aims to ensure compliance with the court’s October deadline, according to Peoples Gazette.
Despite opposition from aspirants, the commission has maintained its nomination fees of N10 million for chairmanship positions and N5 million for councillorship slots.
“In recognition and conformity with the recent Supreme Court decision, the mutual agreement between states and the federal government upon the expiration of the October deadline.
“The commission is justifiably compelled to reschedule the local government election to Oct.26 as against Nov.30,” Mr Malumfashi said.
