No plans to run for president – Tony Elumelu

The Chairman of United Bank of Africa and Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu, has denied rumours of his intention to contest for the presidency.

Elumelu expressed frustration with Nigeria’s past leaders but emphasized that not everyone needs to be president to make a difference, according to Politics Nigeria.

When asked directly about his presidential ambitions, Elumelu laughed and stated, “All of us don’t have to be president, but what we all want is good leadership. We will coalesce around people we believe are providing good leadership.”

Elumelu’s statement comes amid his close relationship with President Bola Tinubu, who is expected to seek re-election in 2027.

Elumelu was recently appointed to Tinubu’s economic team, further solidifying their connection.

While Elumelu has ruled out a presidential bid, his commitment to supporting good leadership and his involvement in Tinubu’s economic team suggest he will continue to play a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s economic future.
