In a massive demonstration, protesters led by Solomon Dalung, former Minister of Youth and Sports, and Prophet Isa El-Buba, General Overseer of EBOMI Ministries International, took to the streets of Jos, Plateau State capital, to decry the President Bola Tinubu administration’s handling of the economy, which has left Nigerians in hunger, suffering, and poverty.
Addressing the crowd at the Old Airport roundabout, Dalung warned security forces against intimidating protesters, citing their constitutional right to peaceful assembly.
He expressed anguish over the unbearable suffering of Nigerians, with many succumbing to hunger, according to ThisDay.
Prophet El-Buba joined the call for President Tinubu’s resignation, stating, “We can’t wait until 2027; hunger won’t allow us to endure.”
He vowed to mobilize more supporters for the ongoing protest, which he said would continue for 10 days.
El-Buba accused the government of intentionally inflicting economic hardship on citizens, emphasizing Nigeria’s capacity to provide for its people.
He urged citizens to stand up for their rights, warning that no one else would do so on their behalf.
“That’s why we are out here on the street; our citizens are dying, nothing is affordable any longer, not even food to eat,” Dalung said.
Also speaking, El-Buba, who led both Christian and Muslim faithful in chanting protest songs in Hausa and English Language, called on President Tinubu to resign if he can’t lead Nigeria.
He said: “President Bola Tinubu must resign; we cannot wait for 2027 to change him. Hunger will not allow us to endure for that long.”
“We are going to be here for the next 10 days; if you don’t stand up for your rights, no one will do it for you.”
